Introduction to Profiles
Over the past six months it has been our honour to interview athletes, artists, professionals, and leaders from Indigenous communities in
North America. These individuals are true inspirations for all. They possess outstanding qualities in their areas of study, and also maintain a fine sense of balance as human beings. Each individual shared his or her “story behind the story,” telling of their dreams and challenges,
and the avenues that helped them get to where they are today.
Through their dedication, perseverance, compassion, optimism, hard work, and acts of courage they have inspired and motivated
not only themselves but those around them. These are the qualities of a true leader. Leadership evolves through taking a vision and
translating that energy into action—thus making the vision a reality for individuals and communities, and achieving this in a positive
uplifting manner. Each profile teaches us to believe in ourselves and the importance of following our hearts, no matter what sacrifices
have to be made and what challenges must be overcome.
It was our responsibility to search for individuals that exemplified our purpose for the Games. Very quickly we recognized that many individuals across Canada met and exceeded our criteria. Unfortunately, we did not have the resources to interview more people, as we relied on volunteers and lacked the funding to hire additional staff to help with this initiative. However, for our next Games, if you would like to be profiled or know an outstanding leader in your community, please contact us.
